Cohart artist and Night Owl Gallery owner **[Beth-Ann Wilson](https://www.cohart.com/u/bethannwilson)** spent the first 2 weeks of December 2023 creating art at the _Chateau Orquevaux International Artist Residency_ in Orquevaux, France. _L'Appel du Vide: New Work by Beth-Ann Wilson_ is an exhibition of work created during her time there as well as work created in her home studio inspired by her time in France.

**[Beth-Ann Wilson](https://www.cohart.com/u/bethannwilson)** deeply engages with the theme of identity in her recent studio work, using her art as a means to explore her own sense of self. Each of her pieces features a singular figure posed powerfully, interacting with elements that, while resembling collage, are meticulously painted. These figures symbolize various facets of Wilson's identity, allowing her to express the complexity of the self.

In her work, Wilson incorporates natural elements such as flowers alongside urban motifs like graffiti and sticker art, reflecting the dynamic interplay between nature and city life. Additionally, Wilson finds inspiration in plein air painting, which challenges her to step outside her comfort zone and make instinctual, experimental choices. She has a keen eye for beauty in the overlooked and mundane, celebrating the poetry found in everyday scenes.
