"Vital Signs: Artists and the Body" explores how artists have reimagined the body and selfhood as fluid and transformative, challenging fixed categories like gender, race, and sexual identity. Featuring over 100 works, the exhibition highlights the ways in which socially constructed identities are often rooted in abstraction. Much of the work was created by women or gender-expansive artists and offers fresh perspectives on celebrated pieces by Frida Kahlo, Ana Mendieta, Louise Bourgeois, and Senga Nengudi, alongside new acquisitions by artists like Belkis Ayón, Ted Joans, and Rosemary Mayer.

The exhibition explores how artists project, distort, and transform identities through play, empathy, and control, while others focus on the body’s interior, real and imagined. Some works merge the human with the non-human, creating new forms of connection and transcendence. Full of life and vitality, "Vital Signs" highlights how artists expand the concept of abstraction, offering fresh insights into what it means to be alive and to relate to others.
