##### What inspired you to become an artist, and how did you start your journey?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved all things creative, and as a child, art was my passion. I painted throughout my younger years and into college, but after graduating, life shifted. I began working, started a family, and eventually took a 12-year hiatus from painting. It wasn’t until my husband encouraged me to find something just for myself—a way to relax amidst the busyness of homeschooling our two children—that I picked up a paintbrush again.

Within two weeks of returning to painting, my husband looked at me and said, “This is what you’re meant to do.” At the time, I had been struggling for years to figure out my purpose, especially after leaving a career in marketing. His words sparked something in me, and I committed to learning more about the art industry, defining who I wanted to be, and setting goals for what I hoped to achieve with my art.

As a private person, the hardest part of this journey was sharing my work publicly and embracing the title of “artist.” But taking that step has been transformative, allowing me to pursue what I now know I was always meant to do.

##### What is your favorite medium to work with, and why does it resonate with you?

I love working with acrylic paints because they dry quickly, offering a pace that keeps up with my creative flow. Their versatility is another reason I’m drawn to them—they allow me to experiment with mediums to create texture, washes, and glazes

##### What do you hope to achieve through your art?

I see my art as an extension of my faith, a tool to remind myself and others of who we are and whose we are. Through my work, I aim to encourage and inspire those who connect with my story to walk in their purpose and take bold risks. My art also serves as an expression of defiant joy—a reminder that even when life is challenging, we can curate our surroundings with things and people that bring us joy. It’s a testament that difficult seasons won’t last forever and that joy is always on the horizon.

##### How has your artistic vision evolved over time, and where do you see it heading in the future?

About eight years ago, when I returned to painting, my goal was to master the fundamentals of design, composition, and color—an element I’m especially passionate about. Over time, I’ve refined my skills and developed a love for creating series that reflect themes meaningful to me, like connection. I enjoy working with shapes and dots, which spark a sense of joy, and I’m committed to pushing myself creatively while staying true to my unique style.

##### How do you stay motivated and inspired during creative blocks or challenging times?

Creative blocks and challenges are inevitable for any artist, but my faith and self-belief help me navigate tough times. Connecting with other creatives and hearing their passion inspires me, as does spending time in nature or changing my environment. 

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received is to keep a record of positive feedback. I maintain an album on my phone with screenshots of encouraging messages from collectors and followers who’ve been inspired or blessed by my work. Revisiting these reminders during difficult moments keeps me grounded and focused on my purpose.

##### How do you balance commercial aspects of being an artist with your creative vision?

As an artist, my primary passion is painting, but I understand the importance of showing up and creating opportunities to expose my work so it can connect with the right audience and grow my following. To balance this, I set aside dedicated time each week to focus on the business side of being an artist. I also collaborate with brands, but I’m selective, ensuring that every partnership aligns with my values and authentically represents me and my brand.

##### Does technology play a role in your art-making process?

The only technology I use in my art process is an app called Pocket, a version of Procreate. I use it to upload photos of my work and experiment with adding details to complete a piece. It’s also a valuable tool when I’m traveling without art supplies—if inspiration strikes, I can create a mockup to capture the idea in the moment. Later, back in the studio, I can draw from it to develop a new piece.

##### Are there any upcoming projects that you're particularly excited about?

I’m excited to be building up a substantial art inventory, something I haven’t been able to do since I started painting. Quietly working on new pieces has given me the chance to experiment, play, and push the boundaries of my creativity, all while preparing a larger collection to share.

##### How do you approach the concept of success or failure in your art practice?

I believe failure is essential for achieving success. It acts as a bridge, helping us grow and appreciate our successes even more. Embracing failure as an opportunity to learn and improve is key to moving forward. Additionally, not tying my identity to success helps me stay grounded and avoid the emotional ups and downs that come with the ebb and flow of being a working artist.

##### What advice would you give to emerging artists or other artist peers trying to find their voice in the art world?

I believe that having a strong sense of self—knowing what you love, what you dislike, and staying in tune with who you are—ultimately makes you a better artist. Finding your voice as an artist comes from experimenting, eliminating what doesn’t resonate, and embracing what truly speaks to you. When you combine everything you love, you create from the soul, and that authenticity forms a unique voice that connects deeply with those who resonate with your work.
