[Fernando Jaramillo](https://www.cohart.com/u/fernandojaramillo) is an artist since youth. Studied Fine Arts, Design, and Photography. Passionate about connecting with art lovers worldwide through his work. Colombian artist renowned for his colourist captivating urban and natural abstract landscapes, blending vibrant colors and evocative imagery to convey a feeling of hope and contemplation. His works evoke a sense of wonder and introspection, inviting viewers to explore the beauty of the world through his unique artistic lens.

##### Can you describe your artistic process? What materials and techniques do you typically use?  

My process is intuitive, involving layers of shapes and vibrant color palettes. I often start with simple forms and build them into complex, interconnected systems, much like the works you’ve seen. I use a combination of acrylics, ink, and sometimes digital media, allowing for a mix of spontaneous flow and careful detailing.

##### What themes or concepts are you most passionate about exploring in your work?

The central themes of my work often revolve around human connection, urban life, and natural systems. I'm fascinated by how micro and macro elements coexist in both nature and society, whether through organic structures or urban infrastructures. There’s a strong focus on connectivity and complexity, how things build and grow together, much like ecosystems or cities.

##### How do your personal experiences influence your art? 

My personal experiences shape my art greatly—especially my travels and the contrasts I’ve observed between natural landscapes and urban environments. Living in different cities has deeply influenced my use of geometric patterns, as well as my exploration of chaos and order, structure and spontaneity.

##### Who are some of your biggest artistic influences, and how have they shaped your practice?

Artists like Piet Mondrian, Paul Klee and Sean Scully with his exploration of geometry and color, have been huge influences. Also, Wassily Kandinsky’s use of abstraction to evoke emotion speaks to me, as I try to create a similar effect in my work. Contemporary influences include street artists and architects, as their blend of public space and creativity inspires my larger compositions.

##### What role does collaboration play in your work? Have you collaborated with other artists or disciplines? 

Collaboration plays an exciting role in my art, especially when working with architects or designers. I’ve worked on installations where the intersection of my art and physical spaces became a form of dialogue with the public, also creatively intervening in some furniture and objects of functional use. Interdisciplinary work pushes my creativity beyond the canvas.

##### How do you define success as an artist? What does it look like for you? 

Success for me is both personal and communal. It’s the feeling of completion when a piece resonates with what I wanted to convey, but also when the work engages others, provokes thought, or inspires a connection. It’s not about commercial recognition alone, but more about impact and engagement. I feel grateful and delighted that my work goes across the globe.

##### Can you share a specific project or piece that holds special significance for you? Why is it important? 

One of my most significant pieces was a large installation of cubes in a public space, combining my abstract geometric patterns with the voices of local communities. The project became a form of storytelling, reflecting the vibrancy and diversity of the people there.

##### How do you engage with your audience, and what do you hope they take away from your work?

I hope the audience feels a sense of discovery when viewing my work, like they’re part of an ongoing story. I often leave my compositions open to interpretation, inviting viewers to create their own narratives or reflect on their relationships with the world around them.

##### What challenges have you faced in your artistic career, and how have you overcome them?

Like many artists, one challenge I’ve faced is balancing commercial demands with personal vision. At times, the pressure to cater to a market can clash with creative freedom. Overcoming this means staying true to my core concepts while finding ways to adapt without losing authenticity.

##### In what ways do you think art can contribute to social change or address current issues in society?

I believe art is a powerful tool for social commentary and change. It can address issues like inequality, environmental degradation, and the complexities of urban life. By creating visual representations of these themes, I hope to provoke thought and conversation, encouraging people to see their world differently. I want to bring positive feelings of hope and enthusiasm.
