So long as you can see the sun, summer can look like almost anything. Depending on where you’re from, past memories, or your current situation, every individual has a specific idea of what those three months of the year look like, whether that vision is triggered by the foreign sight of [barnacles](https://www.cohart.com/artworks/7824) washed ashore, [sun-bleached tufts of beach grass](https://www.cohart.com/artworks/5080), or someone with an air of impish youth that gives off that [“school’s out” mindset](https://www.cohart.com/artworks/4522). 

We’ll always share that universal love of chill beach vibes but, lately, we’ve also been obsessed with another summer-coded aesthetic: Palm Springs chic. For anyone who's ever been to this California desert oasis, a mere stone’s throw away from where Coachella happens, you’ll know that the city has one of the best collections of [Desert Modernist](https://visitpalmsprings.com/desert-modernism-2/) homes. Built in a [mid-century modernist style](https://visitpalmsprings.com/mid-century-architecture-self-guided-tour/), these minimalist structures built around the ‘50s and ‘60s used large floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors to create a sense of cohesion with the surrounding landscape. So for those of you who like to treat nature as an art piece itself, we’ve found five Cohart artists who create nostalgia-laden work capturing the pure essence of Palm Springs chic. Because the notion of summer can still involve sand, even without the briny smell of sea spray.
