The French have long been considered one of Europe’s foremost tastemakers, with Paris acting as the epicenter of a good chunk of highly influential art movements. Whether we’re talking the gold-leaf grandiose of Rococo to the modernist abstractions of [Cubism](https://www.cohart.com/news/what-is-cubsim), the creatives who’ve occupied the capital city have always been up to challenge contemporary beliefs through the use of bold and brash visuals, with the 2024 Paris Olympics being no exception.


Focused on themes of sociocultural revolution, progressive ideals, and a strong sense of community, Thomas Jolly’s opening ceremony used the juxtaposition of past and present to highlight a new era of the Olympics. From a headless Marie Antoinette and a [tableaux of drag icons](https://apnews.com/article/olympics-2024-opening-ceremony-drag-queen-paloma-80ffb114bd84229d4e2b12506871b443) inspired by Jan van Biljert’s 17th-century [painting of the Olympian gods partying it up](https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-paris-olympics-opening-ceremony-inspired-dutch-painting-the-supper), the bombastic display did what all great art is supposed to do: Rile up the old guard via revolution and reunification. 


So in honor of what’s been one of the most brazen Games to date, we assembled a collection of [Olympic sports-themed](https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/sports) work from some of our favorite white cube disruptors who are (naturally) a part of the Cohart family. 👇
