I am in my garden, admiring this "pompom" marigold, a.k.a. Dia de Los Muertes marigold, a.k.a. *cempasúchil*. I love the ruffled, abundant petals, and the smell of marigolds and their foliage take me back to my mother's garden when I was a girl. Here, I've captured them in bloom and bud, two phases of their lifecycle. In colors of vermillion red, yellow, and shades of green, blue, and violet, this piece evokes the bursting life of these beloved flowers.
