My work evokes digital art using analog machines. Splotches fade in and out of the paper, sometimes strong and at times so faded as to be indiscernible. The pieces reference the familiar and unknowable, evoking landscapes, maps, and memories.

Petetskaya’s paintings are informed and revealed by the ritual of painting. The act of painting in the artist’s practice is gestural, physical, tangible, personal. The density of paint and colour, alongside the intertwining of solid blocks and negative space, generate depth and multi-dimensionality.

This piece is in response to the 2022 Supreme Court Roe v. Wade ruling. Ruth Bader Ginsburg and my mother were colleagues at Rutgers Law School; RBG taught, my mother was the Assistant Dean. Because of this personal connection, I choose to utilize quotes from Ruth Bader Ginsburg in this piece.

These 3D works begin with small-scale mixed media studies on paper of soft forms and quick strokes that blend and bleed into various combinations. From these, I harden my intuitive moves into individual pieces using a CNC router to come together into a large scale wall hanging.
